TEAMFEEDBACK CASE STUDY

An app to gather and manage feedback in teams. AI backed solution which facilitates the feedback process in any company.

CHALLENGE

This app had to be delivered with minimal development impact. That is why I’ve decided to reuse a lot of components and to base my design on well known patterns such as withwell-knownGoogle Material Guidelines.

MY ROLE

I was responsible for building the business vision which was based on our assumptions. That is why I’ve facilitated Product Workshops. After that moment I was able to prepare UX/UI mockups which were aligned with development requirements. At this moment the product is successfully launched and is getting first customers.

PROJECT SCOPE

PORBLEM: TURNOVER DECREASE INNOVATION

Desk research started with analyzing multiple reports. According to Linkedin Tech Turnover article IT sector has the biggest turnover rate which is 13.2%. It turns out that lack of employees is a huge barrier to scale ideas quickly. This generates costs of $ 400 000/year per medium sized company. Cost of acquiring new employee cany vary between $ 10 000 to $30 000 per position.

WORKSHOPS

As there was a lot to cover before the design and development started I’ve conducted a Product definition workshop in order to align our vision. The goal of this workshop was to define a User Stories for MVP version of Teamfeedback. The output of the workshop enabled the flow to be build.

PERSONA

Before planning the app I’ve had to describe my model users. In order to validate my assumptions we’ve conducted about 100 moderated sessions with our potential clients. Below you can view the short version of our key persona.

ANNA

HR Manager. She is 35 and lives in a big city. She works in corporation and she is leading a small team of HR

CUSTOMER JOB

She is in charge of maintaining HR processes in her company. She gathers feedback, monitors work attitude and helps manager to plan their teams in terms of quality of teamwork and skillset needed.

GAINS

She likes personal contact, and she want to stay in the loop with her team. She knows that acting instantly on issues can help solve the problems right.

PAINS

She often gets too much feedback. She is worried about the broad feedback from a lot of different peers. Sometimes she finds interesting traits in there, but she is not sure how to confirm them. She is also afraid about giving wrong advices in terms of team planning.

PRODUCTS AND SERVICES

TeamFeedback should contain a feature to track and store feedback in a convenient way. It should be customizable so every company will match their processes with it. The product should also contain feature which will help in monitoring the skillsets.

GAIN CREATORS

Anna will appreaciate if there would be a way to validate if team members will match each other. This will boost her confidence in terms of team planing.

PAIN RELIEVERS

Anna is will be relieved if there would be a tool to manage multiple feedback threads. This will increase the level of organization in her documents.

COMPETITION ANALYSIS

The HR market is full of innovative software. At every point we kept in mind our competition. We have concluded that there is a niche in the market in terms of complex functionalities. We have mapped the competition in following segments.

UX CHALLENGES

After workshop I’ve decided to use the common patterns based in Google Material Design. I’ve started with simple paper prototypes and then transformed them into UX wireframes.

In order to help with visual navigation we’ve added the hero icons in each tiles. We want the user to navigate without even reading labels.

Whole app was based on a two levels of elevation. The items on the top are the action tiles. This improves the visual hierarchy.

Biggest UX Challenge was to streamline the survey flow. This activity could be done even on a daily basis and had to be as short as possible.

DESIGN STRUCTURE

Right after the Low-Fi version of the app my team conducted a feasibility  check. We analyzed the system in terms of flow competition and edge case coverage. I’ve also prepared a very solid design system with reference to development standards.

UI DESIGN

Last step in that process was to provide this app a nice looking graphic layer. Additionally my goal here was to provide a branding which was different from our competition. I’ve decided to use navy blue palette with a bit of icons and 3d illustrations. You can also meet our hero person all along the screens.

FEATURES

ENGAGING SURVEYS

The core feature of this app are the surveys. With that we provide a data stream into the system, so it was very important to keep them engaging. I decided to keep them similar to Social apps with emojis, and with various question schemes. Those are also constructed to take max 2 mins to fill out.

FEEDBACK

Key value for this product is the feedback system. This screen is handling multiple feedback threads, feedback loop and feedback logs. User can give feedback on anything in a special feedback form, which is forcing user to share it in unbiased way.

SKILL SHARING

Following our product pillars we’ve constructed a special way to check your team skills and to engage learning across each other. In here everyone can schedule a learning session with team members.
